After his visit to Paxos in February 2024, PAWS was delighted that Lefteris Gallidis agreed to return to Paxos again for a 4 day neutering visit. This time he was assisted by the wonderful PAWS vet nurse, Stephanie Saint, as well as the ever dedicated volunteers Faye, Hara, Vaggelis, Pam & Cecilia. Throughout the 4 days, the team neutered 40 cats thereby preventing many unwanted births and contributing to the maintenance of a healthy stray cat population.
Lefteris and (his lovely dog, Duki!) very much enjoyed his trip to Paxos and was impressed once again by the impact that PAWS is having on the welfare of cats on the island -
"
A big thank you to PAWS for all the amazing work the charity did in organising the recent neutering campaign. It is such an important initiative and it was clear how much time, care and effort went into making it all happen. The difference the charity is making on the island is incredible and all the volunteers were fantastic".

Despite having only recently arrived on the island of Paxos, PAWS vet nurse Stephanie got stuck in to her new role straight away -
"
The week I spent working for PAWS with Faye and vet Lefteris was extremely rewarding. Thanks to the volunteers catching cats we neutered 40 cats over 4 days. Each cat was treated for parasites, ticks were removed, ears were cleaned, any wounds were flushed and matted fur was clipped. In some cases dental work was carried out".
With the facilities provided by the municipal clinic, PAWS is also able to provide hospitalisation and inpatient care to those cats in need of more of a helping hand. As such, when a young, black kitten was presented to the clinic with a significant eye infection, Stephanie was able to care for him and provide all the necessary treatment. She noted how rewarding it was to see him not only improve physically, but also in how he went from being terrified to quite content and enjoying human interaction. The little kitten has since been called Nero and is still being looked after at the PAWS municipal clinic. When he is a bit stronger he will have surgery on his eye and then we hope to find him a forever home on Paxos.

PAWS would like to thank Lefteris for his continued support, Stephanie for showing such enthusiasm in her new role and to Faye, Hara, Vaggelis, Pam and Cecilia for their continued dedication and hard work. As well as to our generous supporters, without whom none of our work would be possible. With the first neutering mission of 2025 being such a success, we cannot wait to see what we can achieve throughout the rest of the year!
