Janet Brenton once again kindly volunteered to work at the PAWS clinic for 2 weeks at the end of May. She was accompanied by vet nurses Hayley Blackmore and Emily Fairhurst.
Janet & Hayley started the visit together and were joined by Emily 4 days later. They provided treatment for 95 cats which included neutering, dentals, an amputation and health checks. They also looked after 2 separate litters of 4 kittens which Hayley & Emily bottle fed day and night! Sadly 2 cats had to be put to sleep plus one seagull with a broken wing.
Both Hayley and Emily were delighted with their visit to Paxos. Hayley is a keen bird watcher and was thrilled to see and hear all the birds around the island. it was her fist visit to Paxos and she very much enjoyed the working conditions and of course the beauty of the island.
Emily worked with Janet in 2022 and was excited to be returning in 2023. As always their veterinary duties were made possible due to our wonderful volunteer cat catchers who assisted them every day. However keen to try, Hayley and Emily got up early on several occasions in search of cats and manged to catch 10 by themselves.
During their weekend off, the team hiked to Loggos, the Trypitos Arch and Erimitis beach.
In her report, Emily says - " It is an incredibly rewarding feeling to have contributed to the work of PAWS charity. The cats on the island look so healthy and well cared for and are evidence of the the positive impact PAWS is having on the the lives of these animals on Paxos"
PAWS is extremely grateful to the whole team for their hard work and for all the supplies they brought with them and donated to the PAWS clinic.
We will be delighted to see them back on Paxos in 2024.
